Through research and data analysis, this type of detailed map, if you will, creates new strategies specific to your company and helps you to understand the purpose and growth potential of your smoothie shop.

Why should I purchase an industry specific plan?
When it comes to writing a detailed outline for your new venture, you have 4 options:
1
      Write it yourself.
Creating a detailed map to guide your smoothie shop takes time and effort. You will need to do a lot of research and data collection and then be able to take that information and configure it into a legible and professional document.  At the very least, your smoothie shop will need to contain:
·         A detailed description of your smoothie shop  and the products you will sell, the legal establishment of your company, your history and start-up plan.
·         Smoothie market forecasts.
·         A financial analysis.
·         An executive summary that highlights your strategies.
·         A strategy of how your smoothie shop will reach its target audience.
·         A financial plan which will include profit and loss, cash flow, balance sheet, assumptions, and business ratios.

2   Use a generic template.
Many people make the mistake of taking this route but a generic template won’t give you the industry specific data that you need to give your smoothie shop its best chance of success.

This type of industry specific document, created by professional, industry experts, is a great option that gives you everything you need without having to hire a consultant or do the research yourself. You get all of the statistics, forecasts and market data that you need to run a successful smoothie shop all for a fraction of the cost of hiring a consultant.  You'll know the specific direction your new venture will be taking and that it is as solid as can be.  Plus, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it was affordable too!

Why Start an Ice Cream Truck Business

The ice cream truck business has been an icon of Americana since the early 1920’s. By the 1950’s, there was an ice cream truck in just about every neighborhood of the country. Today, the ice cream truck business can be a fun and profitable business for the entrepreneur.

In today’s uncertain economy, it can be tempting to start your own business  that has a low initial investment, no boss holding all the power and you can earn up to $500 in just a few hours. The ice cream truck business is just that sort of venture.

Getting Started
Unlike a lot of new ventures, getting started in this exciting business is relatively easy and inexpensive. With a solid business plan, the right permits, and an ice cream truck, van or scooter, you can be running your own ice cream truck in just a few short months.

·         Get off to the right start!
For an affordable price, an ice cream truck business plan template acts as your blue print as to what the goals of your business are and how you will reach them. An industry specific template is an inexpensive way to make sure that all the necessary research has been done to help you succeed.

·         What permits will I need to start an ice cream truck business?
The permits you need to start your new business venture varies from county to county, but typically you will need to get a business license, a permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles and an inspection done by your local Health department.  By contacting each of these government offices, you can quickly learn the costs involved for your particular area.

·         How much does an ice cream truck cost?
The cost of trucks range in size and style. You can purchase a used van fully equipped for less than starting an ice cream shop - under twenty thousand dollars or a scooter type cart for even less. Getting financing for an ice cream truck vehicle is usually not a problem, especially if you have a solid and well thought out strategy to show your investors.

Be Your Own Boss
While being your own boss may sound appealing, it does come with its own risks. While you won’t have someone watching over you who can fire you on a whim, it is entirely up to you whether your ice cream truck venture makes a profit or not. It is true that with the right ice cream truck business plan, the right route and the right amount of commitment, you can earn as much as $500 handing out tasty treats to neighborhood kids; but it will be up to you to actually make that happen.

The key to succeeding in the ice cream truck business is three-fold:
1.    Create or purchase a well-researched and detailed plan.
2.    Establish and stick to a route that includes areas with lots of families as well as parks and other public areas where kids hang out.
3.    Put in the time and effort to keep your customers coming back for more.

Get a Business Plan for Your Ice Cream Truck Start Up

When starting a new business, it is always best to start with a well-researched and thorough plan to help guide you toward success.  An ice cream truck business plan will be the blue-print you will use to help you reach the long- and short-term goals of your new company.

Why do I need an ice cream truck business plan?
You would be unlikely to set off on any sort of journey without first knowing why you are going, what sort of things you might encounter along the way, and how you are going to reach your destination. Starting a new business is an exciting journey and an ice cream truck business plan provides you with the data and ice cream truck market research that you need in order to have a successful journey to a profitable and exciting new corporation.  Without a detailed plan in place, you will be running your new ice cream truck without a very valuable, and necessary, tool.  Research shows that about 95% of all small companies fail with in the first 5 years. The best thing that you can do to avoid becoming part of that statistic is to have a solid ice cream truck business plan in place before you start.

Now that you know the value of having an ice cream truck plan, you have 4 options:

1.    You can write it yourself.
Writing a good plan for your company takes many hours of industry research and data analysis. You will need to know where and how to find ice cream market information, interpret that information and then compile it all into a professional, legible document. If you are great at research and data collection and are willing to put in the time necessary to write your plan yourself, then this might be a good option for you.

2.    You can use a generic template.
There are several generic templates on the internet which you can be downloaded and then completed with your information. The problem with this type of template is that the information within it won’t be specific to the ice cream truck business. It is a simple and inexpensive way to get a business plan, but what good will it really do you in the long run?

3.    You can hire a independent consultant.
A professional consultant can create exactly the right type of strategy on paper for your ice cream truck business and with it you will have the right tool to help your new company succeed. The downside is that consultants charge as much as $100 an hour which means you can end up paying as much as $10,000 for a thoroughly researched and detailed strategy.

4.    Purchase an industry specific plan template.
The fourth option in creating a strategic plan for an ice cream truck venture is sort of hybrid of the first three options. An ice cream truck business plan already has the industry specific research and data compilation done for you and is downloadable from the internet at a fraction of the cost of hiring a professional consultant. Using this type of template is a simple, yet valuable option when getting started with your new venture.

  1. Hot Fudge – this classic ice cream topping is still number one according to most consumers. Warm, gooey chocolate dripping over your favorite ice cream flavor – what’s not to love?
  2. Caramel – There must be something about the contrast between ice-cold ice cream and a warm, sweet topping because caramel came in a close second to hot fudge.
  3. Oreo cookie crumbles – that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Oreo crumbs, more than any other cookie topping, are a favorite topping of both the young and old.
  4. M&Ms – a less messy way to get tasty chocolate on your ice cream.
  5. Whipped Cream – you can’t have a hot fudge sundae without topping it with whipped cream. A lot of people like to top their milkshakes off with whipped cream as well.
  6. Sprinkles – whether rainbow sprinkles or chocolate sprinkles (sometimes called Jimmies) this is a favorite ice cream topping of young children.
  7. Peanut butter Cups - as if peanut butter and chocolate alone weren’t delicious enough, added to a scoop of ice cream, it become one of the most popular ice cream toppings.
  8. Chocolate Chips – White or dark chocolate, sprinkled over the top or stirred in, chocolate chips are an easy choice for favorite ice cream topping.
  9. Strawberry sauce – Poured over the top of vanilla ice cream, this topping tastes almost like fresh strawberry pie.
  10. Cherry – what would a hot fudge sundae or whipped cream topped milkshake be without this quintessential ice cream topping?

How is Ice Cream Made?

Ice cream is one of the most popular desserts in the world and constitutes a 13-billion dollar business in the US. It is believed that 98% of all Americans eat ice cream regularly and that the average American eats about 24 quarts of ice cream each year. With all this frozen yumminess being consumed, have you ever wondered how ice cream is made?

Thinking about starting in ice cream business?

Ice cream is made from butterfat, milk solids, sugar stabilizers, and flavorings. The ingredients used in making ice cream are chosen to give us the texture and flavor that we love so much.

  • Butterfat – this puts the creamy in ice cream
  • Milk solids - these give ice cream “body” and help give it a smoother texture.
  • Gelatin or gum - these ingredients are used as stabilizers and are added to prevent large ice crystals from forming once the ice cream has been frozen.
  • Sugar – is of course added to give ice cream that yummy sweetness
  • Flavors – Anything from chocolate to bubblegum that is added to give a variety of tastes to this already tasty treat.

These ingredients are mixed then pasteurized at around 155° F for about 30 minutes. After the pasteurizing process, the concoction is thoroughly blended together and the cooled in a freezer. While in the freezer, the mixture is whipped to fill it with air to make it smooth and light. The air also acts as an insulator so that ice cream stays cold and can be easily eaten. Before it freezes solid, the mixture is removed from the freezer and poured into containers and then stored at a chilly -25° F.

How is soft serve ice cream made?
Soft serve ice cream is lower in fat and calories than traditional ice cream because there is more air. The same ingredients that are used in regular ice cream is mixed whipped in a special machine that adds a lot more air to it to create one of America’s favorite frozen treats.

No matter how ice cream is made, it is clearly one of the most popular foods in the country. If you are thinking about cashing in on your neighbor’s sweet tooth by starting your own ice cream business, be sure to start with a well-researched ice cream business plan. The History of Frozen Yogurt

Frozen yogurt is quickly becoming one of the most popular snacks in the country. At your local frozen yogurt shop, you can get a tasty treat that is lower in fat and with fewer calories than almost any other dessert option available.

What is Frozen Yogurt?
Frozen yogurt is a frozen dessert made with cultured milk known as yogurt. It differs from ice cream in that it usually has a tarter flavor and is lower in fat. A frozen yogurt shop will usually offer several different flavors of frozen yogurt and provide a variety of toppings for you to create your own custom desert.

Frozen Yogurt Then and Now
  • Frozen Yogurt in the 70‘s
First served on the US’s east coast, frozen yogurt was introduced to limited success in the 1970s. A man named H. P. Hood introduced a soft-serve frozen dessert he dubbed “Frogurt” and in 1978, Brigham's ice cream shop in Boston developed and introduced the first packaged frozen yogurt under the product name “Humphreez Yogart.” The most popular frozen yogurt was introduced by the Dannon Yogurt company. They packaged frozen raspberry yogurt covered with dark chocolate served on a stick.
  • Frozen Yogurt in the 80’s
Frozen yogurt had its first big success in the 1980s. Frozen yogurt manufacturers began to experiment with recipes by adding flavor and changing the texture. What was originally not much different from traditional yogurt in texture and taste, became the tasty soft-serve we have come to love. The health-craze of the 80’s helped to boost the dessert’s popularity and the new flavor options and the opening of frozen yogurt shops in shopping malls and neighborhoods, topping at $25 million in 1986.
  • Frozen Yogurt in the 90’s
The New York Times reported that 177 million gallons of frozen yogurt was produced in the US in 1990. This frozen treat business continued to grow and sales reached $330 million; representing a solid 10% of the frozen dessert market.
  • Frozen Yogurt in the New Millennium
The frozen yogurt business began to wane a bit in the late 1990’s and early in the new millennium but around 2005 the dessert started to become popular again. Frozen yogurt manufacturers went back to more classily tart flavors and yogurt shops started providing a multitude of topping choices. This new type of shop brought new life into the frozen yogurt market and the industry has continued to thrive. 2012 estimated sales are more than $2.5 billion dollars.

Clearly, frozen yogurt has presented a wonderful opportunity for many entrepreneurs and continues to show strength. Location and business know how, of course, play a big roll in the success of any business, but many new entrepreneurs are finding great results here. If you are considering cashing in on the dessert’s success by opening your own frozen yogurt shop, consider purchasing a frozen yogurt business plan template. A frozen yogurt business plan can help you decipher the market data that you need in order to take advantage of this growing industry.

What are the Most Popular Ice Cream Flavors?

Anything from the exotic (a scoop of seaweed ice cream, anyone?) to the classic vanilla can be served on a cone. Knowing which ice cream flavors are the most popular will help your ice cream business succeed.

Unless you plan to have a specialty ice cream shop that serves only the weird and wonderful, you will probably want to stay away from garlic, bacon, or sauerkraut flavored ice cream. The Top 10 Most Popular Ice Cream Flavors
  1. Vanilla – A recent poll found that this all-time classic ice cream flavor is still number one by 29%. Perhaps it is because of the simplicity of it or how good it tastes with toppings, but whatever the reason, vanilla is clearly the most popular ice cream flavor.
  2. Chocolate – No big surprise here. Chocolate ice cream is still the go-to choice of most ice cream business customers.
  3. Strawberry – Once the number 3 most popular ice cream flavor, strawberry ice cream now has to share that spot with butter pecan as both flavors are the most popular ice cream flavors of about 5% of customers.
  4. Butter Pecan – Who knew? Vanilla ice cream with a sweet and crunchy twist.
  5. Neapolitan – This is what you get when you mix our top 3 favorite flavors in to one. When you can’t decide between strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate this is the perfect choice.
  6. Chocolate Chip – This is a must have flavor for your ice cream business. You can’t go wrong with the classic flavor of vanilla combined with tasty chocolate chips.
  7. Chocolate Mint Chip – Add an extra layer of cool to an already frozen dessert with mint chips in either chocolate or vanilla ice cream.
