Ultraviolet (UV) Light Curing Adhesives

Ultraviolet (UV) light curing adhesives, also known as light curing materials (LCM), have become popular with manufacturers due to their rapid curing time and strong bond strength. UV adhesives can cure in as little as a second and many formulations can bond different materials and withstand harsh temperatures. These qualities make UV curing adhesives essential to the manufacturing of items in many industrial markets such as electronics, telecommunications, medical, aerospace, glass, and optical. Unlike traditional adhesives, UV light curing adhesives not only bond materials together but they can also be used to seal and coat products and are generally acrylic based.

Ultrabond UV Curing Adhesives

The Benefits of Thermally Conductive Acrylics

Structural acrylics provide specific adhesion for bonding electrical components with high thermal conductivity such as heat sinks and circuit boards. These thermally conductive acrylics are ideal for use in applications such as the production of LED lighting for the following reasons:

Dissipation of Heat

Heat trapped and not dissipated by the components can lead to premature component failure and costly repair and replacement. To prevent this from happening, thermal conductivity can be assured and electrical shorting prevented by using thermally conductive acrylics. Because of the insulating characteristics of the acrylic adhesive, the heat is not retained and costly repairs and replacements can be avoided.

Self-Leveling for Good Contact

Using thermally conductive acrylics that offers self-leveling or self-shimming properties can ensure the adhesive has a good initial contact with a substrate. This type of leveling action reduces the adhesive to a uniform layer thickness of .005 - .007" on each application. Adhesion shear strength is important to bonding performance, but the desired adhesion strength cannot be achieved if the adhesive does not have a good initial contact.

No Mechanical Devices Needed

Another benefit of thermally conductive acrylic adhesives is that they replace mechanical devices and silicone greases. When using this type of structural acrylic adhesive, it is not necessary to use mechanical devices such as fasteners, clips, screws or rivets for assembly. Thermally conductive acrylics even negate the need for silicone greases that can trap contaminants. The adhesive alone is sufficient in providing the most efficient thermal transfer between transistors or microprocessors and their heat sinks.

No-Mix Application

Unlike epoxies, thermally conductive acrylics require no direct mixing. This no-mix application eliminates errors in mixing ratios and waste of products.

Room Temperature Cure

Thermally conductive adhesives are designed to have fast fixturing times. They are also considered room temperature cure adhesives meaning no heat is required to harden the adhesive.

Other Benefits

Structural acrylic adhesives bond well to dirty and oily surfaces so they require no extensive surface preparation. They have high peel and high impact strengths. They withstand weathering effects well and create a tough, durable, shock resistant bond.

Hernon Manufacturing is your total solutions provider for adhesives, sealants and dispensing equipment. HERNON has developed a thermally conductive acrylic product called Dissipator which is ideal for use in the production of LED lighting.

To learn more about Dissipator, a thermally conductive adhesive, Hernon Manufacturing's custom dispensing equipment, or any of our other adhesives, sealants or dispensing solutions please call 407-322-4000.

Different Types of Adhesives

An adhesive is a compound that adheres or bonds two items together. There are many sources and types of adhesive which are commonly divided into the following categories:

Drying Adhesives

Glues and rubber cements are members of this family. As the solvent evaporates, the adhesive hardens. These adhesives are typically weak and are used for household applications.

Hot Adhesives

Popular for crafts, these adhesives are used in a wide range of applications adhering common materials. They are applied hot and simply allowed to harden as they cool.

Reactive Adhesives

Reactive adhesives generally come in two separate containers and are mixed immediately before application causing polymerization which solidifies the adhesive.

Temporary Adhesives

Temporary adhesives, commonly used on paper as in bookmarks and office supplies, have a low adhesion and are designed to repeatedly or easily stick and unstick.

Private Label Adhesives

Hernon Manufacturing is your complete solution for all of your private label adhesive needs. From cyanoacrylates to silicones to epoxies, Hernon has the worldwide production facilities to meet your private label requirements. Anaerobic Pipe Sealants for Sprinkler Systems

Anaerobic pipe sealants/adhesives are superior to other sealing methods. They contain no solvents and do not shrink, stretch, split, rot, distort, wear-our, or relax and joints never loosen under vibration. Pressure cycling does not weaken or loosen the sealant path.

Because the sealant path is formed when parts are made-up, that is, threaded together, the plastic shim formed during cure is truly a "custom" seal. Sealant not forced out cures to a helical path in the thread roots to form an exacting match of the surface irregularities. The shim mirrors and fills all the voids, scratches, and thread nicks preset in even the best-machined straight or pipe threads. Unlike Teflon tape, any non-confined or excess sealant material does not cure and pose the threat presented by shredded tape fouling valves or circuit elements.

Solutions for Fire Sprinkler Systems

HERNON's line of Dripstop sealants are engineered with many advantages over conventional pipe dopes. These materials harden without shrinkage in the joints creating a tough, insoluble, vibration proof seal that will not leak even if threads are damaged.

This line of threaded component sealants include a grade specifically designed for hydraulic components as well as various strengths for differing sizes and substrates. These anaerobic-cure sealants have been designed for permanent or semi-permanent applications.

Dripstop sealants are 100% active containing no solvents to evaporate. They do not shred like tape dope and are not subject to cold flow, pressure and temperature phenomena like non-hardening dopes.

Dispensing Equipment for Fire Sprinkler Systems

Hernon’s Autosealers are a line of dispensers specifically for applying pipe or flange sealants. These semi-automatic, fully pneumatic and portable pipe thread sealant dispensing systems are very easy to use and flexible too. They are able to handle pipe diameters of 1/8″,1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″ and 3/4″. The Autosealer dispensers also reduce product waste due to their precision dispensing.

About Hernon Manufacturing

ESA's proprietary monitoring system can be integrated into any renewable energy installation. It allows for simplified, centralized, reliable and secure data management of power plants, an essential part of achieving maximum energy production from a renewable energy system. The monitoring system also allows plant owners to reduce system downtime, increase performance and make informed decisions as to operations and maintenance (O&M) services. Additionally, with ESA's monitoring solution, system managers are automatically alerted of events to allow for quick response, resulting in maximum energy output with minimal expenses.

With the company's ability to provide EPC, financing, O&M services and a single source monitoring system, ESA closes the loop providing a complete turnkey solution. Customers receive a complete renewable energy plant development and management solution that is backed by ESA's years of experience gained from their testing facility, in the engineering of innovative products, inverter monitoring, site expertise and worldwide services infrastructure for optimum project performance.

"Not only does ESA's monitoring system give our customers one point of contact, but by partnering with ESA, our customers can count on us for everything from EPC, to financing, commissioning, monitoring and O&M. ESA does it all," added Burkett.

Adhesive Failure

Adhesive failure is the failure of the adhesive to stick or bond with the material to be adhered. Adhesives may fail in one of two ways:

A cohesive failure is a structural failure of the adhesive in which adhesive remains on both substrate surfaces, but the two items separate.

Two substrates can also separate through structural failure of one of the substrates; this is not a failure of the adhesive. In this case the adhesive remains intact and is still bonded to one substrate and the remnants of the other.

For example, when one removes a price label, adhesive usually remains on the label and the surface. This is cohesive failure. If, however, a layer of paper remains stuck to the surface, the adhesive has not failed.

In working with power generating motors, any type of adhesive failure can be catastrophic. But more importantly, an adhesive needs to be of the correct formula type to meet the requirements of the job.

In some instances of power generation, high strength bonding is needed. For example: Hernon's Cylinlock 846 is the high strength analog of grade 822, yielding shear strengths of 4,000psi. Providing relatively quick cures, outstanding solvent resistance, and improved reliability for severe service applications.

Another application may call for eliminating vibrational loosening of screws, in which once a product is applied you are still able to easily disassemble or adjust the screws. In this instance, Nuts N’ Bolts 420 would be ideal. This product is engineered to eliminate vibrational loosening of setscrews, cap screws and machine screws while allowing for easy disassembly or adjustment.

Another one of Hernon's products is ReAct 767, a high performance tough acrylic adhesive designed primarily for securing ceramic permanent magnet segments in motor magnet bonding applications. Used in conjunction with Hernon EF Activator 56, this structural adhesive is ideal for choke and transformer bonding, DC motor assembly, alternator and flywheel applications, tacking, unitizing, ruggedizing, sealing and shallow potting.

ReAct 767 fixtures in seconds, is acrylic acid free and non-corrosive, non-flammable, and suitable for harsh environments. ReAct 767 exhibits good thermal shock, impact and peel resistance characteristics, and excellent adhesion to a wide variety of plated surfaces.

Hernon Manufacturing offers over 5,000 formulations and more than 300 products to meet virtually any industrial need. Whether your application calls for adhesives, sealants, or dispensing equipment, consider Hernon Manufacturing for your direct purchasing needs.

Why Become a Work at Home Travel Agent

Legitimate work from home jobs like home based agents are more popular today than brick-and-mortar travel agencies. No more are companies renting space to sell travel, now they are renting server space to host their websites that they sell to people who want to own their own travel agencies.

Just like everything else, travel has moved online. However, not everyone wants to book their own travel. There are people that still look for and prefer to have a travel agent, someone they depend on as ‘the expert' to guide them in their next family vacation destination. In these cases, travel agents are necessary.

Thanks to the internet, anyone who wants to become a travel agent from home can do so with ease. Companies, such as Global Travel International (GTI), provide their independent travel agents with a clear path to a successful home based business opportunity.

Travel Tips to Save Money

Who doesn't like to save money on travel? Let's face it, getting a discount feels good. Plus, when you've dreamed of the perfect vacation for what seems like years, and the time finally arrives for you to depart, no one wants to have to worry about whether that dream trip will be putting you in debt or that you simply can't go all out and have a great time because you can't afford little luxuries while on vacation.

Here are a few tips we've put together to help you relax and enjoy your holiday in England and save money as well.

Great Britain: Save With Sightseeing Passes Or Memberships

Sightseeing passes or memberships shave the high price of visiting castles, gardens, and historic houses. Some, including the Great British Heritage pass and the English Heritage’s Overseas Visitor pass, are for specific amounts of time from a week to a month. The National Trust’s pass must be purchased before your trip. If you’ll be spending time in Scotland, be sure to look into the Historic Scotland’s Explorer Pass or the National Trust for Scotland’s Discovery Ticket. Once you have the information about these and other discounts; match what the pass or membership offers against your itinerary to see if you’ll save money.

London: Buy An Oyster Card Or Travelcard For The Underground And Buses

To save money and get discounted fares, purchase an electronic Oyster card at a Tube station for 3 pounds, charge it with a cash value, and use it on the Tube or on buses around the city. You reload it with money as needed. Another option is a Travelcard, sold for a specific number of days (even one day) of travel and good for buses and for specific zones in the Tube system. Buses are a good way of seeing the town, particularly if you plan to hop on and off to cover many sights—but don’t take a bus if you are in a hurry.

It also never hurts to stop by the tourist office when you arrive at your destination. These tourist boards can provide maps, brochures, and other helpful resources. Staffers can answer any lingering questions you have about getting around, tours, places to eat, and the like. Plus, many tourist boards have discount passes, coupon books, or other package deals good for several or possibly even all the main attractions.

Huge Travel Discounts and Commissions

Home based travel agents have a leg up on others. They've discovered how to slash their travel costs and earn travel commissions on their travel and the travel of others.

Home Based Travel Agents

Travel agents who work from home can earn commission on many different types of travel and travel related activities: hotels, rental cars, tour packages, cruises, some airline tickets, travel insurance, attractions, train fares, and more.

Home based travel agents book travel for customers and are paid commission on the booking. As an example, if you were to book a hotel for a client, the hotel would then send a check to your host agency after the client checked out. The host agency, in turn, would pay you your commission.

It costs the customer nothing to use the travel agent unless the travel agent charges service fees. In the example of the hotel reservation, it would cost the same whether the traveler uses a travel agent or books through the hotel directly.

Many people put travel agents into the same category as real estate agents. They believe it costs additional to use a travel agent. This is untrue. In many cases a travel agent can get a better price than the general public through the suppliers who work only with travel agents. Many people do not know all the options for booking a vacation. A good online travel agent does. Once people are educated on how a travel agent gets paid, they are more open to working with travel agents. If a client knows that if he lets you book a hotel and it will cost the same price regardless, he will work with you. Therefore, it's important to let your clients know how you can help them save time and money on their travel arrangements.

Work from Home Advantages

There are also other advantages to travel agents who work from home with a host agency in that suppliers will often offer bonuses, special incentives and provide support to all of the agents affiliated with the agency. Since no agent can have the experience of having traveled or learned about every hotel or resort in the world, having others that you can get advice from is really helpful.
The future of travel agencies is always questioned. The truth is the industry has changed in many ways. Some changes were for the better, some for the worse. Many airlines have cut commissions for travel agents. However, there are many other suppliers, like the cruise lines who are paying travel agents more than they were ten years ago. Cruises used to be booked by only the rich and now people of all income levels are booking cruises. Every year, more and more people go on cruises. After returning from their first cruise, many are hooked and will return to the sea again and again. So, this sector of the industry is really growing.

People all need travel arrangements at some point in time. From those who need to travel for business to families who wish to vacation with their loved ones and visit relatives to newly married couples who go on honeymoons. Travel is an easy sale. Always remember, your clients are contacting you for help; you are not calling them or approaching them trying to sell them something they don’t want.
