Choosing the Best East Valley Air Conditioning Contractor

With a large number of air conditioning contractors in East Valley Arizona, selecting the right one is not an easy task. Many contractors go out of business every year leaving you with no warranty. Some repair companies use sub-contractors to do their work and others pay commissions on selling parts to customers they probably don’t need. We recommend that you use a company that has been in business for at least 10 years.

If You Need Emergency Service
For after hour calls, our professional team will dispatch one of our qualified on-call a/c repair technicians promptly for emergency service. Make sure the East Valley repair company you call will respond to your emergency needs in a timely manner. When it is extremely hot or cold, most reputable companies will be extremely busy. We promise to let you know when we will arrive and then fulfill that promise. We will do our very best to get your system up and running within 24-hours or in the same day. An important fact to note is that our trucks are fully stocked with most parts to get your system up and running immediately.

When You Need Yearly Maintenance
You've probably seen ads for low cost tune-ups that vary from $19.95 - $59.95. These gimmicks are not for a quality tune-up, but as a phone solicitors to get unqualified repairman into your home. At the end of their visit, you'll either have been sold parts you don't need or nothing will have been done. Some of these tricksters are unlicensed contractors who are paid solely by the parts that they sell. We only employ qualified technicians who are not paid commissions. Our precision tune-ups generally take an hour to complete and we guarantee all work and parts.

Does Your System Need Replacing?
One of the most costly and important decisions you'll make regarding your home is whether or not to replace your air conditioning system. Keep in mind, the average life of a system is 8 to 15 years. Some systems last longer than others depending on the quality of the installations and amount of maintenance performed through its lifetime. We have been in the home appliance repair business in the East Valley for more than 30 years. We will be glad to come out to your home for an air conditioning evaluation. You will be glad you called AZ Home Appliance Repair for all your home appliance repair needs.

Repair Problems Solved For Your East Valley Air Conditioner

Often not knowing why a major appliance isn't working or is making a funny noise very frustrating. Not knowing if you need to call an East Valley air conditioner repair service company or if you could easily fix the a/c problem can cause a lot of stress. To help eliminate the worry, we've listed a few common a/c repair problems East Valley residential homeowners have faced and their likely causes:

The unit tries to start for a few seconds and then quits.
Each air conditioner has a motor called a compressor. The compressor provides the cooling capacity for the air conditioner unit. If the compressor or its electrical controls are defective the compressor may try to start, fail, and create an electrical overload. If the unit does create an overload, every compressor circuit is also equipped with an overload safety switch. The safety switch is designed to protect the compressor from burning out. The safety switch will cut the power to the compressor for a certain length of time and then reset itself. When it resets it will allow the electricity to flow to the compressor once again. If the compressor then tries to start again, the unit should function normally. If the compressor doesn't start when the overload resets, the overload will again cut the electricity to the compressor. This cycle will continue indefinitely. If this situation is occurring, unplug the air conditioner and get help from a qualified repair technician. Unfortunately, the cost of the repair often exceeds the price of a new air conditioner.

Outside unit is dirty or obstructed.

A dirty or obstructed condenser blocks proper air flow to the unit and can cause the system not to cool properly. Similarly, over time the coil on the outdoor unit can become dirty and clogged with leaves, pine straw and other debris. Regular cleaning of the outdoor coil will ensure proper operation and also provide the maximum energy savings. A homeowner should be able to perform regular preventative maintenance to keep the condenser clean and free of obstructions.

A motor is running but there is no air blowing.

Every air conditioner is equipped with at least two motors, the fan motor and the compressor. It is possible for the fan motor to be defective and the compressor to be running. In this case, the unit will appear to be running and may even sound normal but no air will be blowing out the front or back of the unit. If, you discover the fan blade is difficult to rotate, the fan motor will need to be replaced. Electrical troubleshooting will be needed, however, if the fan blade turns freely. Calling a qualified East Valley A/C technician to locate the cause of the problem, is your best bet. He or she can narrow down the problem which may be either with the capacitor, the selector switch or the motor itself.

Keeping Your East Valley Home Cool

Air conditioner repair service companies in the East Valley recommend that you have your unit inspected and serviced by a professional at least once a year and many offer service contracts which cover seasonal inspections. These professional maintenance services go hand in hand with the routine maintenance homeowners should be performing on a regular basis on their air conditioner unit.
Keeping your A/C running effectively during those hot East Valley summer months is key to keeping your family happy and comfortable. Here are a few tips to making your A/C work properly and efficiently:

Regulating the Temperature
It is often quoted that 78 - 80° is the acceptable temperature for all-round comfort, but it is not necessary to adhere to this figure. If is found that 80° in summer and 68° in winter is comfortable for the person paying the power bill and the rest just have to make due, or take over responsibility of the power bill and set the thermostat wherever your heart desires! But, keep in mind, you can save considerably on the amount of energy consumed for each degree of cooling or heating that you do without.

Shading Your A/C Condenser Unit
Another thing you might try to do to help your A/C work better and keep up with the heat is to try to shade the condenser coils of your A/C unit. With central A/C , the condenser coils are in that big box that’s outside your house with the large fan in it. The condensers fan blows out the warm air from your home and cools the coils that bring in the cool air. Window awnings or a shade tree are good long-term shade solutions, but if you need something immediate then try a temporary structure. By shading those coils, you can help your AC stay cool so it doesn’t need to work as hard to keep up with the heat. However, be careful not to allow anything to fall inside the unit or block the air flow to the condenser coils. You should keep a 24 inch parameter clear around your outdoor A/C unit, including above it.

Cover Your Windows
Many people over look the sunlight coming in through your windows as a heat source. But, this bright light can heat up your house like a magnifying glass burning a leaf. All your windows, especially windows facing the sun or that get direct light, should have blinds, shades or curtains which can block out the sunlight and the heat. If you have sheer or fairly light curtains or window treatments then you should consider adding light-blocking roll-up shades or opaque blinds to keep out the heat and light. You can easily make a room much cooler in just a few minutes by blocking out the sun.

What to Do When Your East Valley A/C Isn't Cooling

A home's air conditioner is just like a car's A/C. There's refrigerant, a condenser, compressor, evaporator, blower motor, etc. . Everything's exactly the same except larger. Repairing a home A/C unit is not for the typical do-it-yourselfer, so be sure that you really know what you're doing before you go digging around the electrical components. You can be seriously injured or even killed when working in the unit other than to perform routine maintenance tasks.

So, what do you do when your air conditioner isn't working? Before you call an East Valley A/C repairman, first you check to see if it's even turning on at all. If not, be sure to check that your circuit breakers are turned on and that the fuses have not blown out. Also, make sure your thermostat is properly set to cool. Next, check your equipment. If the coils or filers are dirty or they are obstructed by debris, they cannot work properly.

Central air conditioners have two separate components: the condenser and the evaporator. The condenser unit is usually located outside the house on a concrete slab. The evaporator coil is mounted in the main duct junction above the furnace. Both the evaporator and the condenser are sealed. Therefore, a professional service person should be called for almost any maintenance other than routine cleaning.
If you are an experienced A/C repairman, you can also check your refrigerant level. If it's low, you can add some and then check for leaks. If it's leaking, or you don't know how to check it to begin with, call an East Valley air conditioner repair service. Remember, if you are not equipped or well versed in A/C repairs, it's better to be safe and have your air conditioner repaired by a professional than sorry!

If you are able to check the refrigerant level and it's full, but the unit is still not turning on, check the switch and thermostat. If the refrigerant level is full, but still not blowing cold, clean out your evaporator. If you don't know how to do this properly and safely, consult a professional A/C repair service.
There's one final reason your A/C unit may not be cooling -- Is there high humidity? In the summer, when the temperatures start hitting the high 90's, sometimes the air conditioner can't keep up with the rising heat and humidity. The energy used by the unit to cool the air is also used to remove humidity. In high humidity conditions, the air conditioner is working to remove water vapor and cool the air. Considering there is a finite amount of energy available, it is split between these two processes. The higher the humidity, the less energy that can be used for cooling.

As a final note, central air conditioners should be professionally inspected and adjusted before the beginning of every cooling season. However, don't let your maintenance end with this annual checkup. While there aren't many repairs you can make yourself, there are specific maintenance procedures you can follow to keep your system operating at peak efficiency.

Routine A/C Maintenance for East Valley Residents

When the temperature rises in the East Valley of Arizona, it's time to think about routine maintenance for your A/C unit.  It's not always necessary to call an air conditioner repairman, there are some simple maintenance tasks you can handle yourself.  To help you correctly perform these routine maintenance chores yourself, we have prepared a simple checklist to walk you through this process.

Before we get started, as with any electrical appliance--remember to disconnect all power to your air conditioning unit before you remove the access panels to perform routine maintenance.  Be aware that there may be more than one connection that you must disable.  If you are unsure, please consult with a professional A/C service company before proceeding.

Do-It-Yourself A/C Maintenance Checklist
•    Check and change your air filters every month.  A dirty filter will make your air conditioner work harder and costs you more money on your utility bill.
•    Your indoor coil should be dusted on a regular basis. Use the soft-brush attachment to your vacuum cleaner to accomplish this task and make sure the coil is dry before you start.
•    Make sure your outdoor condensing unit is free of any debris--keep grass clippings, leaves, plants, and other items away from your unit. Also, you should occasionally check the base pan which is located under the unit and remove any debris that has collected.
•    While outside, be sure the support for your outdoor unit has not settled and caused your unit to become unlevel.  This condensing unit must remain level to keep moisture properly draining out.
•    Is your air handler or heater in the attic?  If so, you'll want to make sure this unit has proper drainage or major water damage may occur.  As an air conditioner cools, it produces condensation.  If this water is unable to drain to the outside of your home, a secondary pan catches the water and releases it outside.  Whenever the secondary drain has water coming out of it, it's definitely time for a professional air conditioner service to come check out your primary drain, as it's probably backed up.  While a secondary drain can temporarily prevent water from damaging your home, if left unchecked expensive damage can occur.
Between regularly scheduled maintenance service calls with an East Valley AC repair company, you can help keep your A/C running properly by performing these simple tasks.  Doing so will help save you from expensive repair bills and high electric bills as well.
If you're still finding that your electric bills are too high, one thing you should keep an eye on is the temperature you set your air conditioner.  Often, 78 to 80 degrees is the acceptable temperature for all-round comfort, but it's not necessary to adhere to this figure.  Some people are comfortable with higher or lower temperatures depending on the season; however, keep in mind that you can save a considerable amount of energy consumed for each degree of cooling or heating that you do without.  This can translate into a lot of money on those sweltering East Valley summer days.

How Does Your Air Conditioner Work in Arizona?

In Arizona, most air conditioners are firmly attached to your home in some way. However, air conditioners are really an appliance and not a permanent fixture of your home. In fact, it's more like another well used major appliance in your home, your refrigerator. Actually, there's not much difference between the two mechanically. Instead of making a refrigerator compartment cold, an air conditioner makes an entire room or household cool. Both a refrigerator and an air conditioner do the same thing to cool your food and to cool you - they both remove the heat.

Your homes air conditioner has two separate components, the condenser unit and the evaporator coil. The condenser will usually be located outside of your house on a concrete slab. The evaporator will usually be mounted in the main duct junction.

In most homes, their central air conditioning system will be connected to a home's forced-air distribution system. Using the same motor, blower and ductwork, heat and cool air can be distributed throughout the house.

When turned on, central air conditioners move hot air inside the home through the return-air duct. A blower moves this hot air across the cold evaporator coil in the main unit and the cooled air is returned to the house through the duct system.

Because both the condenser and the evaporator coil are sealed units, a professional air conditioner repairman should be called for any repair issues. Additionally, to keep your homes air conditioner running smoothly throughout the hot Arizona summer, you should maintain regular maintenance service check-ups.
It is much cheaper to regularly maintain your air conditioner than to have to have emergency air conditioner repair service. Even though your homes air conditioner is a very tough piece of equipment that has been engineered to withstand all sorts of abuse, it still needs proper care. Without regular maintenance, just like your automobile, small issues can turn into huge repair bills. So, don't be complacent about maintenance, or you'll pay for it later on down the road.

Regular tune-ups help your air conditioner run properly. Without regular maintenance an air conditioner loses about 5% of its original efficiency for each year of operation. A tune-up will help maintain up to 95% of your air conditioners original efficiency. This can save you on costly repair bills, monthly electric bills and the headache of dealing with an emergency air conditioning repair.
